This week on In the Valley

Kimberley Based environmental lobby group Environs Kimberley has elected Fitzroy River custodian Natalie Davey as the new Chair of their Board of Directors. Davey says it is an honour to oversee an organisation that has worked tirelessly with local ranger groups and traditional owners to protect the Fitzroy River. Natalie was also featured in a recent online docu-series called Voices of the River which featured traditional owners along the length of the river talking about what the river meant to them. The series has won awards at film festivals all over the world. Natalie says work like this is having a significant impact in razing the global awareness of this the last wild river system in the world not to have been damaged by farming and forestry

Also this week Gurama Yani U held their AGM last week. Geoff and Indi talk through the outcomes of that meeting and what it means for GYU next year and into the future.

Central Kimberley Football league held a basketball tournament last week. Geoff and Indi talk through the results and also look at whether CKFL might manage to put together both a football and basketball season next year.

This is the final In the Valley for 2021. We’ll be back in the new year with more great conversations about things happening around the Fitzroy Valley.
