Join Taos News' Tempo editor Lynne Robinson as she chats with Chris Brochu on his recent portrayal of Dennis Hopper in the Apple TV show “The Big Cigar”. Brochu shares how he prepared for the role by reading one of Hopper’s favorite poems, If by Rudyard Kipling. Brochu also tells Lynne how he came to Taos. “It’s the most home I've ever felt anywhere and I’ve moved around a lot,” he says in the interview. Brochu and Lynne also discuss their hopes for the continued revival of Taos’ acting community. When he’s not acting himself, Chris teaches others how to act and he hopes to offer classes to Taoseños someday.

Join Taos News Editor John Miller as he talks with teens Angela Burns Diaz and Carlos Miller about suicide and mental health in Taos. Angie is an incoming senior at Taos High School who is working on a film documentary about suicides at the Gorge Bridge. "With the way the bridge is set up now, it's not able to hold people that go there that struggle and we need to find a way to find them more support..." Angie says. Carlos was a youth member of the Town of Taos Council before he graduated from Taos High School in June. He has been talking with Taos' elected officials on how adding barriers to the Gorge Bridge can prevent people from committing suicide. Carlos says in the interview, "We don't have the time to fight back and forth on this. There's a clear direction on barriers and we need to revive the idea that was so close to being implemented and we need to do that expediently."

Taos teens Angela Burns Diaz and Carlos Miller on suicides in Taos and how to stop the Gorge Bridge from being a suicide destination

Join assistant editor Geoffrey Plant as he talks with local rafting legend, storyteller, and two-stepping champion Francisco "Cisco" Guevara. Cisco shares how a kid from Los Alamos helped found the first rafting company in Northern New Mexico and how much the sport has changed over the years. Cisco is also the president of Amigos Bravos, a local non-profit dedicated to protecting rivers statewide. He discusses successes the organization has had in recent years and also the biggest threats to local rivers. Finally, Cisco shares some of his favorite stories with Geoffrey, including how he got his famous hat.

Nicole explains how Luchita Hurtado made her work privately for much of her life and rarely exhibited it. Her third husband, Lee Mullican was widely considered the artist of the family. However, towards the end of her life Luchita finally began to receive the recognition her work deserved. Nicole shares her enthusiasm for this upcoming retrospective of Luchita Hurtado's work and highlights the importance of having it here in Taos.
