Voices @ Alive Podcast - 2026-9-25

On Voices@Alive, I spoke with Caryn and Peter Kneale about the lives they have built in Pokhara, Nepal, and the work they do through International Nepal Fellowship (INF).

Caryn, a dietitian with 25 years of experience in NSW public hospitals, supports patients and families with nutrition education. She spoke about the different forms of malnutrition she encounters, from children who do not have enough to eat to the growing reliance on processed foods. Peter, who taught in NSW schools for almost 40 years, now teaches primary school children from many countries at Pokhara Study Centre. He shared both the resilience of children growing up between cultures and the challenges they can face when deciding where “home” is.

They spoke openly about adjusting to a new language and culture, and about the warmth of the people who have welcomed them. We also discussed how changing rainfall, storms, flooding and landslides affect food security in Nepal. Peter described INF’s relief work following a devastating disaster and the long effort communities face as they rebuild.

Caryn’s invitation was to learn about other countries and offer friendship to Nepali people here in Australia. Peter’s closing thought stayed with me: wherever we live, our shared humanity gives us a reason to connect with and serve one another.

Thank you, Caryn and Peter, for sharing your story. You can learn more about INF Australia at inf.org.au.
