Another Halloween is in the books, so what do we do with those old pumpkins?
Option 1, donate it. Clean unpainted mold free pumpkins can be donated to farms for feed, or animal sanctuaries like Shelby’s Ranch, or Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary in Cambridge (make sure to call ahead).
Option 2, you can compost it. Just remove any wax plastic or decorations first.
Option 3, throw it out if it’s been chemically treated or it’s super moldy.
DO NOT just dump them, especially in conservation areas. It might seem like a nice treat for wildlife, but GRCA warns that rotting pumpkins can disrupt local ecosystems.
