CanadaPlays Association advocates for a wider variety of play opportunities for kids in public spaces. Since its inception, it has led or helped organize nearly 20 free loose parts play events in public spaces within HRM for groups ranging from 20 to 200+. The International Day of Play events – now in their third year - are done in conjunction with the IDoP Ad Hoc Committee, a group of community volunteers.      

The association functions as the operating arm of The PlayGroundology Project known primarily for its award-winning blog. First published in 2010, the PlayGroundology blog has registered more than 750,000 organic hits from readers in over 165 countries. 

Celebrate the UN's International Day of Play June 6th at Ferry Terminal Park in Dartmouth from 11am-1pm!

Families and children are invited to join the CanadaPlays Association for a fun-filled celebration of active, outdoor play, featuring:

• Loose parts play zones that spark creativity and imagination
• Classic outdoor games that bring generations together
• Facilitated play activities led by volunteers and community leaders
• Open-ended free play spaces where kids can explore and move freely
• A vibrant community atmosphere celebrating the joy and importance of play

All activities are free and family friendly.

Established by UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/78/268, the International Day of Play is observed annually on June 11. It celebrates and raises awareness of the right to play enshrined in Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) — the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. Now in its third year, IDoP signals a global call for policies, funding, and community action to protect and prioritize play for every child, everywhere.
