In Episode 40, Stuart invites Tim Nagle back to discuss the Avoidance & Management of Short Shifts. This clause, which is particularly relevant to the Nurses & Midwives agreement, has had some changes from previous agreements. The previous version of this clause had caused some disputes in regards to the operation of circumstances under which a Short Shift could be worked. The amendments in the new agreements address these issues. Clause 47 now details the provisions of Short Shifts. Short Shifts are defined in Clause 4 as 6 hours of duration excluding meal break, and it’s purpose is filling a gap in a roster in the context of a 24/7 ward setting. There are also prohibitions of no Short Shifts on night duties. Find out more about the changes in the management of Short Shifts.
Discussion starts 2:36.
