SYNOPSIS: SAGUNILogline
An intense mythological back-story of vengeance, Saguni chronicles how hidden deceptions, an enforced political marriage, and a brutal act of familial imprisonment transform Prince Shakuni into the ultimate architect of the Kuru dynasty's destruction.
Short Summary
The story opens on the bloody battlefields of the Mahabharata war, reflecting on the millions of lives lost due to a single man's ancient conspiracy. The narrative then shifts to the past, where the royal family of Gandhara—King Subala, Queen Devi, and Prince Shakuni—languish in a miserable Hastinapura dungeon. Imprisoned by the Kuru advisor, Bhishma, after a fierce political fallout over a concealed truth, the family is systematically starved.
Knowing they will not survive, King Subala forces Shakuni to make a horrific sacrifice: eat all their meager rations to survive and deliberately break his own leg so that every limping step will forever fuel his thirst for revenge. Following his parents' agonizing deaths in the cell, Shakuni feigns absolute repentance to Bhishma. Granted freedom and a place in the Hastinapura palace, Shakuni steps out of the dungeon, ready to use his genius with the dice to poison the Kuru clan from within.
