The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) is today meeting with various stakeholders to discuss the alleged growing scourge of sexual violence against young girls in the North West province. The commission says that there are growing concerns about increasing cases of sexual violence that are not reported to the police, but rather resolved by traditional leaders, who often impose fines on the perpetrators in the form of money or a cow instead of the incident being reported as crime. Commission concerned by "avalanche" of reports pregnancies among young girls, some as young as 9 years-old 

Tensions are brewing in Diepkloof, Soweto following the death of yet another child, a five year old boy, suspected of consuming snacks bought from a local spaza shop. Three other young boys remain in a critical condition in hospital. Local residents are now up in arms outside the alleged spaza shop demanding that the shop shuts down as a matter of urgency. Police have meanwhile opened an inquest docket as investigation get underway. One local resident says enough is enough and questions how many more children should die before something tangible is done...
