The SOS Coalition - a broadcasting network that campaigns for democratic media and broadcasting -  has sounded the alarm on the proposed SABC draft Bill recently signed by Cabinet. The Bill is set to be tabled in front of parliament's relevant portfolio committee before the public can give input on it. Amongst the Bill's proposals is for the SABC to establish a subsidiary commercial company that will have its own board. The draft bill also proposes that the Communications Minister - in consultation with the corporation -  may regulate television licenses in order to generate money for the Public Broadcaster. SOS Coalition calls for SABC to adopt mixed funding model with donations, sponsorships, advertising and money coming from the fiscus

The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, says police will leave no stone unturned to identify and arrest those responsible for the deaths of women in Gauteng. This follows the discovery of a fifth body today. Dimpane has also extended condolences to the family of 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, whose remains were positively identified at the Germiston mortuary. One suspect remains in custody in connection with the first body discovered in July.  Dawn Gounden i the spokesperson for the family of elizabeth.

The conference brings together 800 parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth nations until the end of the week. Its aim is for MPs to discuss issues that will strengthen democratic governance, sustainable development, economic inclusion and international cooperation. Residents of Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape have expressed frustration following the municipality's decision to spend 235-thousand rand on a State of the Metro Address event that was held in Despatch on Thursday evening. The event has come under scrutiny amid ongoing water and electricity disruptions, ageing infrastructure and other service-delivery challenges. The municipality says billions of rands are being invested in infrastructure - but residents want to know when they will see the impact on the ground.
