Section 27, the Cancer Alliance and the Treatment Action Campaign, together with patients waiting for cancer treatment  have embarked on a march to the offices of the Gauteng Department of Health. The group is calling for the department to spend the R784 million set aside by provincial Treasury in March 2023, for the purpose of outsourcing radiation oncology services for over 3-thousand patients who are currently on the department's treatment backlog list. The NGOs claim that many of the patients on the backlog list have been waiting for these services for years, with some patients having already passed on while waiting for the department to act. For more on this, SABC acnhor, LeAnne Manas spoke to the Gauteng Department of Health's Dr Ntsakisi Maluleke and Section 27's Khanyisa Mapisa and began by asking Dr Maluleke what the latest is in the process of securing radiation oncology services for patients.
