Economists have welcomed the latest drop in consumer price inflation which is a a four year low from three-point-eight percent in September to two-point-eight in October 2024. The CPI now stands at its lowest since June 2020 during the COVID 19 pandemic when the rate was two-point-two percent. Falling fuel prices remain the primary factor behind the slowdown. The local authorities have engaged with the households instructing them to vacate the place since it is dangerous to have structures built on top of the pipeline. South Africa will take over the presidency of the G20 group. This will be the first time an African country is leading this group of powerful nations. Today in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, the Brazilian President Lula da Silva will officially handover to President Cyril Ramaphosa. The president has promised to continue to push for the interests of the developing South countries. Meanwhile, the president of the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP 29, Mukhtar Babayev, has warned that initiatives to mitigate the effects of climate change could stall if governments refuse to compromise. Authorities say the illegal miners currently underground in Stilfontein, in the North West province, are not trapped, rather, they remain underground in an effort to avoid being arrested by police.

A task team established last year to deal with illegal mining, Operation Vala uMgodi, has identified 12 non-operational mines in the Greater Giyani and Malamulele areas as hotspots for illegal mining activities. The mines ceased their gold mining operations over 30 years ago during the Gazankulu homeland administration. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier, Hlulani Mashaba

This follows President Cyril Ramaphosa's announcement that all spaza shops must register with their municipalities within 21 days. The group is picketing outside the municipal offices. This as police have been conducting operation Vala Umgodi in the area by blocking supply routes of water and food to the miners. Local community members have since been volunteering to rescue the trapped miners while the police remain on standby to arrest them once on the surface.
