The Special Investigation Unit says the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has failed to design and implement controls to ensure that there is an annual reconciliation between the funds disbursed to institutions of higher learning and the allocation of those funds to the students. Civil society organisation, Joburg Crisis Alliance is calling for the resignation of the Johannesburg Executive Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda, citing a sharp decline in citizen confidence and continuing failures by the city's leadership. The organisation says that under Gwamanda, the city's mishandling electricity tariffs and water cuts have intensified.
