The ANC in Johannesburg says it has resolved to forward the name of its regional chairperson and current Finance MMC, Dada Morero for the position of the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg. The announcement follows the resignation of Johannesburg Mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda. Gwamanda, submitted his resignation to the Speaker of Council today following consultations. Briefing the media in Johannesburg, ANC regional secretary Sasabona Manganye says Gwamanda's resignation is the culmination of robust engagement within the ANC structures and  13 political parties representing the government of local unity. A politician, an ANC cabinet minister, an activist, and once a pharmacist, Pravin Gordhan, will seemingly be remembered with mixed emotions. He has been hailed for bringing SARS' administration firmly into the 21st century as Commissioner of the tax collection agency.  He was also well-respected by the capital markets during his tenure as Finance Minister.  But at the end of his political career, the minister has come in for criticism for the slow turnaround of key state-owned enterprises and concerns around the soundness of the Takatso-SAA acquisition deal, which subsequently fell apart. The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, on behalf of Gordhan's family, hosted a press briefing following his death.

The theft case against Longwe Twala, the son of the music legend and producer, Sello Chicco Twala has been postponed to next Monday. Longwe made a brief appearance in the Randburg Magistrate's Court after, Chicco Twala opened a case against his sons, Sello and Longwe, who he claims stole sound equipment from his Johannesburg studio. Longwe's brother and co-accused, Sello, was released on bail due to insufficient evidence. Here is State Prosecutor, Esana Moshasha addressing the court earlier today...

Randburg Magistrate's Court postpones theft case against Longwe Twala to next Monday

National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, has announced that 85-thousand suspects have been arrested for various crimes across the country in the last month. Masemola was speaking during a media briefing at a roadblock in Houghton, Johannesburg, on Wednesday where he provided an update on the SAPS countrywide operations. He was joined by the National Head of the HAWKS, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, who highlighted that law enforcement officers implicated in extortion and corruption will be dealt with
