The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed that seven learners from Bongucele Secondary School in Mthwalume on the South Coast of the province, have been treated at a clinic for alleged food poisoning, after consuming snacks at a nearby tuckshop. The Department says the pupils were suffering from diarrhea and vomiting and were taken to the clinic to be treated.  Sakina Kamewndo spoke to SABC reporter, Mlondi Radebe

KZN Department of Education confirms medical treatment for 7 Bongucele Secondary School learners following diarrhea complaints

The Special Investigating Unit has conducted a surprise raid in the Makana Municipality in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape. This comes shortly after President President Cyril Ramaphosa, authorised the Hawks to investigate allegations of serious maladministration involving seven tenders in the in the education-centered town where Rhodes University stands.  The raid is understood to be in relation to the Bulk Water Project, the Bulk Sewer Upgrade project including and electrification project amongst others. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SIU spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago.

Botswana Democratic Party has suffered a historical defeat after governing Botswana for  close to six decades. Results indicates that the BDP has only won 1 seat losing its parliamentary majority in this week's general election. BDP President Mogkweetsi Masisi's has ultimately lost the parliamentary majority, ending a 58-year rule by the party. Voters in Botswana have rejected the country's longest ruling political party that's been in power since independence in 1966. Botswana Democratic Party suffers historic defeat, paving the way for the Umbrella for Democratic Change Party to govern Botswana almost 6 decades after the country's independence.

Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor in the Eastern Cape, Gary Van Niekerk has resigned from the position and is expected to be replaced by his deputy and ANC councillor, Babalwa Lobishe. Van Niekerk, who hails from the National Alliance is expected to take up the position of deputy mayor. The ANC has now retained back mayoral positions in Nelson Mandela Bay, the Johannesburg Metro, Tshwane. and Ekurhuleni. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to ANC Head of Communication in the Eastern Cape, Gift Ngqondi
