Institute of Security Studies says in areas where there are high crime levels, members of the community are often reluctant to report crimes because they fear that police work hand-in-glove with criminals

Newly-appointed Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu says he is aware of the high crime rate in the country. Mchunu is taking over from former police minister Bheki Cele. He says ready for the job and wants to tackle some key priority challenges facing South Africa, such as high rates of murder, rape, and hijacking amongst others. Meanwhile... The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) says firearm crime and policing policy should top new SA police minister's agenda. ISS says South Africa's police service needs renewal and clear direction, and it is ready to assist Mchunu.
