State Advocate Drushantha Ramsamy has told the Madlanga Commission that she was instructed to gather information about former IPID official Cedric Nkabinde, even though no formal investigation had been opened. She says the information included claims that Nkabinde received money and car from a service provider being investigated by IPID. She further told the commission that suspended MP Fadiel Adams showed investigators messages claiming suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu could be arrested if the Political Killings Task Team was disbanded.

Parliament's impeachment committee has received legal advice confirming that President Cyril Ramaphosa can be called to testify in its inquiry into the Phala Phala matter. SABC Parliamentary reporter Zalene Merrington says the advice indicates that, like any other witness, the President can be subpoenaed if he declines an invitation to appear. The Impeachment committee is in the process of finalising its administrative work after a Western Cape High court ruling temporarily halted its hearings. The judgment is the result of Ramaphosa's bid to halt the committee until his application to review the Section 89 Independent Panel report is heard in September. "ELECTION WEDNESDAYS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE IEC".  With just three days remaining before the proclamation of the election date, the Electoral Commission calls on all eligible voters to use this time to register to vote or update their voter registration details ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections. On Friday, 7 August 2026, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Velenkosini Hlabisa, will proclaim the election date. At midnight on the day of the proclamation, the voters' roll will close, marking the beginning of the next phase of the electoral programme. The election timetable, which outlines key electoral processes such as the certification of the voters' roll, opening of candidate nominations, the launch of the code of conduct and other statutory activities, will then come into effect.
