 The Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality says the prefabricated structure it uses as a call centre amounted to one-point three Million rands, inclusive of the set-up inside the structure. This follows reports by the City Press which accuse the municipality of alleged corruption and irregular expenditure following weekend reports that claim a sum of R38 million was used to erect and equip what appears as a shack with equipment to help it attend to service delivery issues in the area. Western Cape police have launched a murder and attempted murder investigation following a fatal shooting incident in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain, on Tuesday afternoon. This was after three people were shot and fatally wounded. Police say the deceased have been identified as a 39-year-old woman, a 29-year-old man, and a 36-year-old man. A 15-year-old girl was among those who were shot during the incident; she sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Preliminary reports indicate that an unknown grey vehicle stopped in front of the residence. Three unidentified males, whose faces were concealed with balaclavas, allegedly entered the house and opened fire on the occupants before fleeing the scene. Chief Electoral Officer IEC Sy Mamabolo has announced a special voter registration weekend will be on 20 and 21 June 2026. Mamabolo says this is designed to make it easier for eligible South Africans to register or update their details closer to where they ordinarily reside. Mamabolo says once the voting date has been announced, voters must vote at the voting station where they are registered.
