COGTA minister says contract terminations could have been avoided if CWP workers aged 55 and above, had been released in April

The family of the late Bacelio Alphonso, who passed away on December 30, 2024, while incarcerated at Leeuwkop Prison in Johannesburg, is seeking justice  to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death. In a statement the family says Authorities informed the family the following day, but key details, including the exact time of death, remain unclear. Family members, says a source within the prison, allege Alphonso was beaten to death by officials who claimed he attacked them after allegedly smoking crystal meth. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Godfrey Williams, family spokesperson.

Lobby group - AfriForum has stressed the need of publishing matric results in newspapers - citing the benefits for learners in rural areas and villages who have limited internet access. Afriforum's Head of Cultural Affairs, Alana Bailey spoke to SABC NEWS during the brief court adjournment in the Pretoria High court where the Information Regulator has brought an urgent application to stop the Basic Education Department from publicly publishing the 2024 matric results like in newspapers. Afriforum has been invited to the case as a friend of the court. Bailey says publishing exam numbers without names balances privacy and public interest, a stance supported by a 2022 court ruling. The presiding judge in the matter has questioned the urgency of the application....

Legal Analyst backs Information Regulator bid to prevent Basic Education from publishing matric results in newspapers

China is currently facing a new virus outbreak with the HMPV spreading rapidly, causing flu-like and COVID-19-like symptoms. While the virus is prevalent in China, it is reported to not be a  new and can also be detected in other parts of the country. For more  clarity, Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Prof. Cheryl Cohen, head of the Centre for Respiratory Diseases and Meningitis at the National Institute For Communicable Diseases.
