Despite having some of its candidates not accepted due to what it calls IEC glitch, the ANC says almost 97 percent of its members are ready to contest elections. Currently councilor candidates from 45 political parties including the ANC were not loaded onto the IEC system on its 28 August deadline. But at the last count, the ANC loaded over nine thousand candidates with some candidates in six councils including Mangaung, Umshwathi, Sundays River Valley and Walter Sisulu not allowed. Speaking to the media in Johannesburg earlier today, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says although the numbers are few, they have a substantial numbers of their members allowed.
