Sanelisiwe Laurancia Mbatha (‘Saney’) is an Admitted Attorney of the High Court with the Right of Appearance. She further holds a Master’s Degree (LLM) in Medical Law (attained a Distinction on her Dissertation) obtained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Natal, and she’s a current Doctoral candidate in Medical Law (Doctor of Laws) at the University of South Africa (UNISA). Saney is a former healthcare professional who was admitted and registered as a Theatre nurse in 2013 with the South African Nursing Council and practiced as a Theatre nurse from 2013-2017, then moved to pharmaceuticals until 2019. Saney has extensive experience in Medicines and related substances, having worked with leading pharmaceutical companies and hospitals before venturing into law in 2020. Saney is a black female, born in rural KwaZulu-Natal (Vryheid) and currently residing in Johannesburg, Craigavon, Fourways area. Saney is youth, as she is 32 years of age and is the founder of Saney Mbatha & Associates Inc. a 100% black woman-owned boutique law firm, located in Sandton, Johannesburg and a branch in Umhlanga Rocks, Durban, where she manages attorneys, support staff and clients. Apart from extensive experience and knowledge of healthcare, Pharmaceutical and medical law. She currently specialises in Municipal, regulatory, compliance, Constitutional, insurance, corporate and commercial law and practices in all aspects of litigation, mediation, and settlement negotiations of such matters. Saney also serves on the Board of Directors of Midrand Community Communications NPO, which manages the affairs of the local community radio station, wherein she is a serving as Deputy chairperson. She is also serving on the board of Trustees of Cedar Acres Estate (Sectional titles property) and was elected as a chairperson in the year 2023-2024 and is currently in the year 2025 serving as a Deputy Chairperson. She was appointed as the Head of Legal in the South African BRICS Youth Association (SABYA) NPO in 2024. She often volunteers, participates in the events and projects of the Law Society of South Africa, the Black Lawyers Association (BLA), South African Women Lawyers (SAWLA), wherein she’s often tasked to prepare presentations, lectures on issues affecting young lawyers and law students and also share her legal experiences and insights. She further participates in the University of South Africa Widowhood Issues in South Africa (WISA), where she provides free legal advice to Widows. She also conducts radio interviews on various legal topics. The above illustrates her special interest, passion and dedication in serving the people of our country.

Saney is also an activist and passionate about education and transformation. She is currently a part-time instructor of Trial Advocacy in law schools conducted by BLA- LEC Nationally, and she has been recently appointed by UNISA to supervise Master’s and Undergraduate research students in the College of Law.
