Last week there was a story that went far beyond sport. What happened to the Iranian women’s football team during the Asian Cup was about safety, and impossible choices. These athletes came to Australia to compete and were instead forced to navigate war, surveillance and global attention, simply for playing football. We wanted to talk about what that means, why some players have now been granted asylum, and how unfair it is that women chosen for their talent were put in such danger.
