The importance of an interdisciplinary approach lies in the fact that it combines chemistry, biology and epigenetics to overcome the limitations of CAR-T cell therapies, particularly in solid tumours, and the metabolic stress within the tumor microenvironment that can compromise the function of immune cells and make them less effective.

Through the development of engineering, computational and AI tools - Prof. David states - the research aims to protect the genetic material of T cells and reprogram their metabolic response. And its ultimate goal is to create next-generation cell therapies that are more resistant, able to adapt to hostile environments, and clinically effective for cancer patients.
