Billy jumped on the phone to the queen of Aussie rock and Baby Animals lead singer, Suze DeMarchi, to talk about the new tour kicking off with The Angels.
Many musicians look to Suze as a pioneer Australian music for her years as the strong & powerful lead singer of Baby Animals. "I never looked at it as a being a guy or a girl playing in a band, I am a musician and that's what I should be defined for - not my gender. I never felt disadvantaged because I was a woman. It gave me power."
Local hero, Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi) has toured with the Baby Animals and she told Billy in their interview that, "Suze spent a lot of time with me telling stories from her career and giving advice about how to last in the tough music industry".
After many years playing in many different bands, pubs & small venues in Perth, Suze put together what would become the original Baby Animals band. Suze found success at a young age with their debut album, outselling Nirvana's Nevermind. Suze said she didn't even know who Nirvana were!
The band went on to tour the world and open for big names like Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant, as well as playing all major festivals. Back in Australia, the record was getting more and more exposure and upon their return home from the first world tour, their album was #1 and suddenly, the band were playing sold out arenas.
Suze never let the success go to her head and made sure she didn't go down any wrong paths. She was told by her father that it could be all gone tomorrow so live in the moment, but don't get carried away.
