The Biden administration is reportedly considering preemptive pardons for political allies including Anthony Fauci, Liz Cheney, and Mark Milley. Biden justifies the pardons on the grounds that some officials might be targeted by Donald Trump. 

The president’s pardon power is absolute, but just because he can doesn’t mean he should. 

It’s not surprising that Joe Biden is worried about lawfare. Perhaps he’s measuring Donald Trump with the crooked yardstick that should be applied to his own administration. 

Never before in American history has any president’s Justice Department prosecuted his political opponent. Biden’s did so with relish. Never before had any president cheered on the indictment of a rival based on novel legal theories. Biden did.

Having already broken one of the norms that separates America from banana republics, Joe Biden now seems willing to break another. But America’s had enough.

Just say no, Joe.
