The great social philosopher and writer Irving Kristol once put it that foreign policy is not that difficult, all you need is a moral sense of right and wrong.  Of course, finding such people, especially as they are trained in today’s university, is increasingly difficult.  How refreshing, then, to see the foreign and defense policy of the United States shaping up as it is in the incoming Trump administration.

Anyone wanting a sense of our new foreign and defense strategy ought to watch the interview Dr. Sebastian Gorka gave to the Free Press this past weekend.  Gorka, long a national radio host with Salem, among other things, will be President Trump’s senior director for counter-terrorism at the White House National Security Council.  

In his interview, Gorka articulates a moral clarity and vision for our and our allies’ defenses that is perfect for our times, correcting so many misbegotten theories and foreign policy ideas of the past.  Gorka shows the ground as neither interventionalist nor isolationist. He’ll be a serious addition to a serious team.

Bobby Kennedy and Pete Hegseth: Leaders Poised for Impactful Roles | Charlie Kirk with Rick Scott

Last week, The White House announced Joe Biden will commute the sentences of almost fifteen hundred criminals and pardon 39 others. It’s the most commutations and clemencies ever granted in a single day.

It’s an abuse of the pardon power.

Above all, many of Biden’s commutations look like an ugly, obscene gesture to the country that elevated him to its highest position.

They include a judge convicted of taking kickbacks to send minors to for-profit detention facilities — resulting in one young man committing suicide. Another recipient of clemency committed the largest municipal fraud in US history. Others include Chinese spies, and someone convicted of possessing child pornography.

Only those with a deep and abiding hostility to America and a deep disrespect for its justice system could ever propose and approve such offenders for commutation.

Shame on them all. And shame on Joe Biden.
