One of the most charming sights this election cycle was former Donald Trump working the fry machine at a Pennsylvania McDonalds. In his trademark red tie covered by a McDonald’s smock, Trump greeted customers and handed out bags of fast food.

Of course, he was trolling Kamala Harris, who can’t verify her claim she worked at McDonald’s. But even so, it is far too unusual these days to see a man of Trump’s wealth and station in life treat a blue-collar job with seriousness and respect.

And that was the message of Trump’s shift at McDonald’s. It confirmed that every job—regardless of its pay and perceived stature—has dignity … and so do those who work them. It’s a welcome reminder when the work rate for prime aged men this last decade is lower than during the Great Depression.
