Honestly Speaking

How honest should you be with the person you're dating?

I'm Lina Abujamra, and this is today's single Christian. I recently sat in a singles group and told them my singleness story after I was done. A lady asked a question that opened the floodgates of opinion. She asked, how much of our past do we need to divulge to a person we're dating? If the past is forgiven, why should that person know anything about our dating baggage? Most people in the room agreed. The past is the past and we've moved past it. I've been thinking about this, and while I'm convinced that most things don't need to be shared on the first date, and most things don't need to be shared with excruciating details, when a relationship is moving towards marriage, honesty is always the best policy. The easiest way to know whether someone you're dating is walking in grace is to see how he or she responds to all of your story. Your story, after all, is part of who you are in Christ. We're forgiven, not condemned. But for better or for worse, we all have a story. Let's glorify God with all of it. Want to tell me what you think? Email me at Lena at todesengel Christian Comm.
