Mark Thompson is in the chair tonight filling in for Tim Conway Jr., who’s off on his Alaska cruise. Mark just touched down hours ago with his soon-to-be wife Courtney from their European vacation to her ancestral homeland of Croatia. They kicked things off in London during a stifling heatwave and even had a theater run-in with the sexy new couple Meryl Streep and Martin Short. Mark only spotted two homeless people the whole time he was in London — so why can’t LA and its homeless industrial complex do better?  

Has anyone seen “The Odyssey”? The big-screen remake of the classic tale is crushing it at the box office and helping rescue Hollywood. Was it really written by the blind poet Homer? Turns out the story kept changing every time it was told over the centuries. One classics professor who translated the original text that inspired Christopher Nolan’s film just ripped the movie to shreds, calling it an absolute stinker.  

Meanwhile, big cities are losing kids as families pack up and move to smaller towns — the number of children under 18 in major urban areas has dropped 10% in the past decade, while fertility rates keep falling across the country.
