Analysts have argued that the looming electricity price hike will have far-reaching consequences for businesses, consumers and the country's overall economy.  This comes after the National Energy Regular (NERSA) conceded to a 54-billion-rand settlement error through a court process which allows Eskom to claw back the revenue shortfall from consumer through further tariff increases.  The move will see consumers paying an additional tariff hike of up to eight-point-seven percent in 2026-27, and eight-point-eight percent the following financial year. Police in Lulekani village outside Phalaborwa are investigating a case of suspected cable theft after an unidentified man was electrocuted at Mabobo residence. The man was allegedly trying to cut a live electricity cable when the incident occurred. He was found lying next to the cable and paramedics later confirmed him dead at the scene. Authorities say the body was taken to the Maphutha Government Mortuary while investigations continue. The incident also highlights the dangers of tampering with electricity infrastructure, with authorities warning that cutting or stealing live cables can lead to serious injury or death.

FOCUS: MK Party appoints Sibonelo Nomvalo as secretary general following leadership reshuffle

INTRO: The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has appointed Sibonelo Nomvalo as the party's new secretary general, replacing Bongani Mncwango. MK Party chairperson Nathi Nhleko made the announcement during a media briefing in Umhlanga, Durban on Thursday. Nomvalo replaces Mncwango, who was appointed to the position in August last year following the departure of Floyd Shivambu. Nomvalo becomes the party's eighth secretary general in less than two years. He is also a Member of Parliament for the party, serving on the Ad Hoc Committee to investigate allegations made by Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Meanwhile, Former Midvaal mayor Bongani Baloyi has also been axed as the MK Party's head of elections and replaced by Tholakele Dlamini.

FOCUS: A LIMPOPO WOMAN HAS RAISED CONCERNS OVER WHAT SHE REFERS TO AS POOR STATE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT IN RURAL AREAS. 

INTRO: A Limpopo woman has raised concerns over what she refers to as the poor state of sports development in rural areas. She is calling on the Sport, Arts and Culture department to urgently intervene in addressing the lack of infrastructure, funding and empowerment of women involved in community sport. Ntsako Maluleke, a woman from Dumela village west of Malamulele, is among the few women leading efforts to develop sport in rural communities.  However, she says she has been forced to relocate the academy to Gauteng due to the lack of proper facilities and limited financial support in her area. Vutivi Maluleke and Mkateko Chauke compiled and Mkateko Chauke reports.....
