Today marks 32 years of democracy in South Africa. People across the country are commemorating Freedom Day, which celebrates the first democratic elections held in 1994 after the end of apartheid. While many are celebrating the progress made over the past three decades, others are reflecting on ongoing challenges such as unemployment, inequality, and access to basic services. Freedom Day has become not only a moment of celebration, but also a time to assess how far the country has come and how far it still needs to go.
