The South African Municipal Workers Union, SAMWU, says the City of Ekurhuleni should have vetted senior EMPD officers before the ones in lower ranks. The union has  slammed the City for vetting over three-thousand EMPD officers without necessary consultation. The vetting process which began on Monday comes after witnesses that  testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry made allegations of corruption in the EMPD. He has also been accused of aiding the disbandment of the PKTT for ulterior motives. The suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner testified about the disbandment of the PKTT and the 121 dockets and the kidnapping of Pretoria Businessman Jerry Boshoga.

INTRO: The Independent Electoral Commission has made a clarion call to young people in tertiary institutions, who are eligible to vote, to register. The commission launched its Tertiary Institution Campaign at Taletso College, in Lehurutshe in the North West, to encourage new students to partake in the elections by registering electronically. The IEC says they are concerned about voter apathy amongst young people, with the local government election taking place later this year.

The Mopani District Municipal Council has resolved to dismiss its Chief Financial Officer, Sibongile Mathebula, following a formal disciplinary hearing into allegations of financial misconduct.
