The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is gearing up for a major rollout on Monday (September 1st) when around 80% of its offices nationwide are expected to implement a new Beneficiary Biometric Enrolment system. Designed to curb fraud and strengthen the integrity of the grant system, the initiative marks a significant step in modernizing social welfare services. However, concerns are mounting over whether the system will be ready in time for next week's rollout. Many of the agency's most vulnerable beneficiaries—particularly elderly and low-income individuals—remain uncertain about how this biometric enrolment works and what will be required of them.
