INTRO: Government has commemorated the 33rd anniversary of liberation struggle icon Chris Hani in Kwaggafontein, Mpumalanga. The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture organised the event that marked more than three decades since his assassination. Hani was killed on April 10, 1993, outside his home in Dawn Park, Boksburg, in an attempt to destabilise South Africa’s transition to democracy. Traditional leaders, government officials and community members gathered under theme, “Freedom and the Rule of Law: Thirty Years of Democratic Citizenship,” to honour Hani's contribution to South Africa's liberation.
