KwaZulu-Natal Premier - Thami Ntuli - says Lt. General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's contract as the provincial police commissioner has been renewed. Ntuli made the announcement at a crime imbizo in the Pietermaritzburg area today. He earlier expressed concern about a lack of clarity in the status of Mkhwanazi's contract as it was to expire at the end of this month. Ntuli had met with national police commissioner - Fani Masemola - several times to discuss the matter. In accordance with the constitution the national police commissioner appoints a provincial commissioner in concurrence with the provincial executive, represented by the premier.
