A close race that might represent a turning point in Namibia's political history is predicted by early postal voting results as the country approaches the general elections on November 28. A relatively recent addition to the political scene, the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has become a formidable rival to the Swapo party in power. This outcome is consistent with a regional trend in which burgeoning opposition forces have gained ground against long-standing ruling parties, such as the Botswana Democratic Party and Zambia's Patriotic Front. The question that everyone is asking is: “Can Swapo weather the Storm?”
