Eskom urged prepaid electricity customers to recode their meters before Sunday, 24 November

View descriptionShare

More than two million homes who get their electricity from municipalities and Eskom have not yet switched to the new system. Residents from Soweto to the Eastern Cape have been camping outside the Eskom premises trying to get their prepared meters recoded. Electricity minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has again appealed to households to upgrade their pre-paid electricity meters before the November 24th deadline. During his visit at Eskom offices in Soweto he announced that he will extend the working hours this as hundreds of community members including elderly people were standing in queues. This is part of Token Identifier (TID) rollover project which is a frequent update that both Eskom and City has to adhere to after a certain period. City Power issued a statement expressing how pleased they are that over 99% of their vending pre-paid meters have been duly upgraded, there’s still a handful of vending customers who are still outstanding.
