A new Senate Select Committee on Women’s Health will examine ways to improve care for new mothers and their babies.

The RACGP says too many women face a “cliff edge” in support after leaving hospital, with care often fragmented across GPs, hospitals and child and family health services.

The College is calling for more coordinated care, including dedicated GP-led postpartum plans and stronger breastfeeding support.

Australia’s lobbying rules are under scrutiny, with new research warning that much of the influence happening behind the scenes isn’t visible to the public.

The Australian Democracy Network estimates up to 80 per cent of lobbyists may fall outside the current rules, with in-house lobbyists for major companies largely excluded.

Taken together, they raise a difficult question: When do common sexist schoolyard slurs turn into violent crimes against women? 

Dr Sara Meger, a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Melbourne, has been researching the links between misogyny and violent extremism.

Her research found hostile attitudes towards women were a stronger indicator of extremist views than factors like politics, religion, race or time spent online.
