By the end of June (2025) @pilates will comprise thirty Pilates studios; not a bad effort considering the organisation was little more than an idea for Russell and Tara Jarrett just four years ago. What I love most about their story is that is that these two are becoming peak performers in their 50's (Russ is 57, Tara 56) and having known them for three decades, it's been fun watching two people 'get better' (and not just in business) at a stage in life when most people are definitely not thinking about learning new things, unlearning old things, developing new skills, studying, taking risks, getting uncomfortable on purpose, winding back their biological clocks and of course, building a successful business and brand. It all sounds very sexy but I've never met anyone who has succeeded over the long term by being obsessed with comfort and convenience in the short term. There's a kind of knowing that doesn't come from books, degrees, research papers, TED Talks or even, good-old TYP. It's not downloaded from the internet. It's not something you can Google. You didn't 'learn it’ somewhere. It doesn't ask for permission. It doesn't speak in paragraphs. It whispers. Nudges. It tugs at your sleeve. And sometimes it punches you in the gut. It's not always logical, but it's often right. It's the insight, understanding, knowledge, awareness that you somehow have, without having a f***ing clue how or why you know it. This is a chat about that. 

According to Patrick, in the near future he and I will be buying twin four-legged, hydrogen-powered, robots designed by Kawasaki to be ridden by humans. He calls them 'rideable robotic wolves'. At this point I'd rather be sitting on a good old-fashioned noisy dirt bike that can't think for itself but I guess we'll see how it all goes. Can't say that I've interviewed too many politicians but you'll (probably) be pleased to know that this was anything but a political interview, and Zoe and I went deep down the conversational rabbit hole talking about everything from parenthood, leadership, communication and her childhood dream of becoming a Vet, to mental health, self-regulation, working in high-pressure situations (war zones etc.), dealing with haters and navigating the mayhem that is, politics. *Zoe Daniel is an Australian politician and former journalist. She was elected as the first independent member of parliament for the Division of Goldstein at the 2022 Australian federal election. Prior to entering Parliament, Daniel was a journalist for the ABC from 1993 until 2020. She was an ABC foreign correspondent in three different postings, including Southeast Asia, the USA and Africa. Her most recent posting was as the ABC's U.S. bureau chief between 2015 and 2019.

According to David Gillespie (and some very reliable research studies), good old-fashioned Paracetamol (Panamax, Panadol, Tylenol) can create the interesting 'side effect' of making people temporarily less empathetic or as DG suggests, “temporary psychopaths!” We also chat about why (and how) Al might soon make 'The You Project' (or at least, the host) redundant. About thirty years ago, a new client called Lily showed up at my gym. She was (in her own words) obese, terrified (of me and the gym environment), embarrassed, insecure and desperate to re-invent herself. And she did. Reinvent herself, that is. With a suboptimal lifestyle (very sub), terrible eating habits, genetic challenges, zero fitness and no idea of what she was doing as her starting point, Lily lost over thirty kilos and made amazing fitness and strength gains in a relatively short period of time. Eventually she got qualified as a PT, worked for me for a while, set up her own facility and in 2025 (at 65), she still trains people full-time, is booked out, does zero marketing, advertising or branding and has built a culture and environment that people want to be in the middle of. In the era of selfies, filters, health cults and fitness influencers, I love sharing a story about someone who's doing 'all the wrong things' and thriving! Of course Gillespo has written an article (on Substack) about the world's most controversial, talked-about and in-demand drug. So of course we chat about the magic product(?) that tells your brain you're full (so you eat less), slows down digestion (so you stay full longer) and lowers blood sugar levels (helps diabetics manage insulin). We should probably also mention the potential side-effects of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain and bloating, loss of appetite, fatigue, burping and acid reflux. Oh, and muscle loss, but who needs muscle?

Some people think I'm too blunt. Too direct. Too unsophisticated. Too bogan. Sometimes I agree with them. Some people resonate with my approach to personal development, human behaviour and the psychology of change and some don't. Of course. It's to be expected. And of course, I'm okay with that. I'm not trying to be all things to all people. In this brief solo episode, I chat about why I talk, write and teach the way I do.
