South Africa’s Department of Health has launched a revolutionary wellness vending machine that provides a variety of wellness products, focusing on contraceptive options.

The machine operates through a unique three-step system where callers dial a toll-free number and receive guidance from a healthcare professional on contraceptive options. Once the caller selects a contraceptive, they receive a code to input into the vending machine to access their chosen option.

The project aims to empower young girls and women to manage their reproductive health and avoid unplanned pregnancies while eliminating the possibility of judgmental attitudes from healthcare practitioners.

Joining us to talk about this is the Co-Chairperson of the South African National Aids Council, Steve Letsike.

Today we speak to Tonderai Shoko from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, who has been voluntarily cleaning the streets of the city for years. He dedicates at least 30 minutes of his time daily to cleaning the streets.

#KeepBulawayoClean is a one-man, non-political initiative which is attracting interest from the corporate and business world. Companies are adopting streets in the city of Bulawayo and complimenting efforts from the city council to clean up the patch/streets that they have adopted.

The idea came about when he reminisced about the good old times when Bulawayo was one of the cleanest cities in Africa, growing up in the 1990s.

Studies have shown that exposing your baby to music can speed up the process of them learning to speak and help your baby master complex language concepts faster. According to experts, music makes a big difference to the baby brain.

One study from the Institute of Learning and Brain Sciences detected that after babies listen to music, their auditory and prefrontal cortexes look different.

These are the regions of the brains in charge of processing both music and speech.
We talk to Tracey Mathews, a Kindermusik Educator (She has been working with children and music for 15 years, also has a degree in child psychology)
