Whether you have second hand experience of the chronic mental illness “schizophrenia” or first hand experience by someone close to you, in one way or the other there have been facts and misconceptions intertwined leaving most a little confused
Characterized by episodes of psychosis, including hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking, schizophrenia typically emerges in late adolescence or early adulthood. While the exact cause is unknown, it is believed to result from a combination of genetic, biological, and environmental factors. Despite being a relatively rare condition, affecting about 1% of the population, schizophrenia has profound implications for those who live with it, as well as their families and friends.
The ripple effect of schizophrenia extends beyond the individual diagnosed, deeply affecting those close to them. Family members and friends often experience a range of emotions, from confusion and fear to frustration and grief, as they navigate the challenges of supporting their loved one.
