With cases continuing to rise, it became clear that timely intervention, including access to vaccines was critical in halting the spread and protecting vulnerable communities. Despite early warnings and growing concern, vaccine distribution has remained alarmingly scarce, further complicating efforts to control the outbreak.

In September 2024, Mpox vaccines finally arrived in Africa, yet the quantities were far from sufficient to meet the continent's needs. With an estimated 10 million doses required to halt the spread, the inadequate rollout has been a disappointing and disheartening development. This delayed response reflects the ongoing global inequities in healthcare, reminiscent of the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
