Johannesburg is set to host a landmark exhibition that tells South Africa’s (SA) story through the eyes of its artists. Still We Rise, presented by the Ifa Lethu Foundation in partnership with the SABC Art Collection, brings together artworks created during the Apartheid years and beyond. Opening at the Atrium, Keyes Art Mile from the 30th of October and running until 23rd of November, the exhibition coincides with the G20 Summit, offering an opportunity to share the resilience, courage and creativity of South African artists.
Many of the works were created in exile and have been repatriated, making their display a poignant reminder of cultural survival and collective resistance. The exhibition’s title reflects a spirit of shared perseverance, echoing Maya Angelou’s poem Still I Rise while emphasising the ‘we’ in South Africa’s journey. Visitors will encounter paintings, sculptures, and prints that bear witness to oppression, censorship, and the struggle for freedom, while also celebrating triumph and creativity. Joined Dr Narissa Ramdhani, Director of the Ifa Lethu Foundation.
