At this year’s TED Countdown Summit in Nairobi, the conversation turned toward the future of food systems in Africa, with a strong focus on climate resilience, sustainability and nutrition. Danone Southern Africa joined the global gathering, adding its voice to the call for change by highlighting the unique role dairy can play in building food systems that are both sustainable and inclusive. Speaking on a panel titled Future-Proofing Farming and Food Systems, registered dietitian Leanne Kiezer made a strong case for dairy as a nutritional lifeline on a continent facing the double burden of under-nutrition and rising non-communicable diseases.
Kiezer noted that dairy, often left out of global climate strategies, should be recognised for its potential in Africa, where average consumption is far below global levels. With programs already supporting thousands of local farmers through regenerative agriculture and a commitment to cutting methane emissions, Danone is putting its weight behind long-term solutions.
