Chooka and Bones

In the early nineties, as the club emerged from the shadow of the merger, many a talented young footballer donned the red, white and blue in search of an AFL career. The common thread was their love of the game and the pride and passion with which they wore the colours. Now, a few decades on, two of those past players Jason Watts (1994-1998, 57 games 51 goals) and Jamie Grant (1990-1992, 5 games 1 goal) share their memories from the good old days at Whitten Oval and what they are up to now.

As part of the celebrations for the 100th year of the club, supporters can get their hands on a new publication - Bulldogs Through & Through (Slattery Books) which traces the highs and lows of the history of the Footscray Football Club. Club historian Darren Arthur and writer Andrew Gigacz have carefully crafted a meticulous chronicle of the Bulldogs, from the blurry beginnings somewhere in the late 1800s to the elite sports organisation it is in 2025. Packed with red, white and blue nostalgia in words and pictures, this beautifully presented book is a credit to the two authors and the publishers.

Bob Murphy - the skinny teen sensation - was an early draft pick with great expectations while Ben Hudson was a mature age recruit added to give some grunt in the trenches. Their friendship began with car pooling to and from the Whitten Oval but grew beyond fuel gauge games and musical choices to a bond that is as strong today as during their playing days.
