Governor Greg Abbott has expanded his latest crime reduction initiative as he originally rolled out the Texas repeat offender task force in Houston in October, and now he's expanding it to include Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and here in Austin, and Austin renters may have more bargaining power than they’ve had in years, as hundreds of apartment complexes across the city offer incentives like free rent amid a wave of new development after a recent report from Apartments.com shows roughly 700 apartment properties in Austin are currently offering rent concessions to attract tenants, and about 38-percent of those properties are advertising one month free, while another 25-percent are offering two months free.
