Food Poisoning crisis in Gauteng

View descriptionShare

The Department of Health in Gauteng has issued an urgent advisory for communities to be cautious of the food they purchase from unregulated spaza shops. This is in light of the spate of deaths among adults and children in recent weeks. The provincial Department of Health has conducted health inspections and oversight visits to various spaza shops across the province. Over the past month, they have carried out blitz operations in Soweto and Ekurhuleni. In addition, the Department has been collaborating closely with the Premier and other departments to develop a comprehensive approach. This includes stricter regulations, improved enforcement of existing laws, and heightened public awareness regarding the risks of purchasing from unregulated spaza shops and informal traders.
