Residents under Merafong City Local Municipality which include Fochville, Carletonville, and Welverdiend, are said to be experiencing a severe water crisis which has left many without water for extended periods. Reports in the media point to  infrastructure problems, drought and the fact that the municipality owes Rand Water millions. There are so many pictures on social media showing residents scrambling for water with buckets.
