The early 2000s hit sitcom Malcolm in the Middle is getting a four-episode revival on Disney+, 25 years after the show first aired.

Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are set to return for the project - but no airdate has been confirmed yet.

Flicks.co.nz editor Steve Newall wonders if this reboot will uphold the legacy of the original - which went on to inspire sitcoms that came after.

Time to Talk Entertainment Now, and I'm joined by Steve Newll, editor at Flexta coditing Zai. Good morning, Good morning, Malcolm in the Middle. Now that feels like a kind of a blast from the past.

I was gonna say it feels like an old thing.

It is an old thing, isn't it. I mean, how old is it?

Twenty five years since the sitcom premiered, eighteen years since it finished, and it's coming back. Why not? Else is everything? Else is? Yeah, it's been mooted for a little bit. I know that Brian Cranston tried to get a movie up maybe five or six years ago, and the Kybosh got put on it by the series creator who wasn't participating. But it looks like they've kind of got the gang back together again. Frankie Munez is I want to say thirty five now going to say he's a stock car driver, but his toes back and I'm curious.

So they got to get the original They're not. They're not remaking this. You're going to get the original.

Past the plot details are unclear, but it looks like it's it's rumored to be about the parents' fortieth wedding anniversary and kind of getting getting Malcolm back together with this family. No I mention if it's like the entire entire cars, but Mum, Dad and Malcolm are there. I'm curious if tentative, because when you sort of think about the style of that show, is it was very much of its time, right, it was actually a little bit maybe ahead of its time. Sitcom without a laugh track wasn't a very common thing for an American show. A lot of breaking the fourth wall a litle like fast editing and cinematic techniques. But I think I think that style has kind of permeated into lots of other stuff since, like maybe like a show like Community might have its sort of a lineage back to Malcolm in the middle.

So is the is the trick here then trying to bring back something that a lot of people loved, but Weather twenty twenty four, twenty five twisths to it.

I guess that's I think making four episodes for this, like it's a really short season, that's probably a reason to be positive and not not because it shouldn't have more, but just that that's a there's a concise way to do some storytelling and you know, figure out exactly the best way to not tarnish the legacy of the show which ready treasure run for lots of people.

So good news there for fans of Malcolm in the Middle. Christmas presents. Got any good ideas?

Oh? I sure do. And you know that feeling when you go a Christmas shopping and end up buying something for yourself. I don't shop much.

I got Christmas. I just like that this shopping business is quite cool. Look at all this great stuff.

Yeah, well I got something I thought I need to rotest for myself, so I wasn't sure if it would translate to other people. An Auckland group has made some candles for Christmas promote the new single. The candles called Asbestos for Christmas, and I've brought one one second of a nosing. I know radio isn't a visual media. What your thoughts are on us?

Just put my hands into a round paper bag here.

It's an orthodontic mold that they are Greco Romanc to crown the release of a new single called Asbestos, Taro have somehow acquired the remains of an orthodontic landfill and use the molds to make candles. And each candles actual mold. Yeah, and each candles are different human mouth.

Do you know this is actually quite cool? Though it's got a gold tooth, it's all black plank. This is actually kind of cool if you are looking for something quirky for a real.

Music if you like in person shopping. I picked that up from a flying out record store just off k Road. It's all available online through the store and also through Greco Romanc's band campage. They say fine mouthcrafted candles by Greco Romanc for an enemy or loved one, but not both.

Do you know what? My kids have got lots of those, because gee, they would teeth. We to sort out. I might next time I go past the orthodontis, pop it and get I like that idea.

I'm glad, to be honest, A little part of me is a little bit said that you weren't utterly revolted by it, you know, a barbage way.

I didn't quite have the right reaction there. I'm good to catch up, Steve. We'll talk to you next week.
