The debate over debates continues, with two scheduled between the presidential candidates but no agreement yet on a vice presidential showdown. This will be a debate season unlike any other in recent presidential campaign history.
Having the first presidential debate in summer, before the candidates are even formally nominated at their party conventions, is without precedent. And this will be the first time in many years that the format adopted by the Commission on Presidential Debates has been abandoned.
So as of now, there are just two debates scheduled between President Biden and former president Trump, and none confirmed yet between Vice President Kamala Harris and the Republican running mate, who of course has not been chosen yet.
Harris, from the Bay Area, has agreed to a debate hosted by CBS News in either July or August, but the Trump campaign prefers one hosted by Fox News. Negotiations between the two campaigns and the networks continue, and we do expect a decision on a Veep debate soon.
This is the state of California, hosted by KCBS Radio's Doug Sovern, Patti Reising, and Bret Burkhart.
