You’ve seen it at the airport: a CLEAR lane, separate from the general security line and the TSA PreCheck line, where flyers pay an annual fee to a private company to speed through based on their biometric data. They get escorted ahead of even the regular PreCheck customers to get through security that much more quickly.

A Southern California lawmaker is fed up with CLEAR customers cutting to the head of the line and has introduced legislation that could see California become the first state to restrict those lanes.

Proposed bill could slow down California's CLEAR airport express lanes

The Biden Administration announced today it's allowing thousands of DACA immigrants to enroll in the Affordable Care Act's health insurance for next year's coverage. 

This move will give roughly 100-thousand immigrants, who were brought to the US as children, the opportunity to access federal health insurance when they sign up for coverage after November 1st--just days before the presidential election. 

For a closer look at the implications this has on California, KCBS Radio's Bret Burkhart and Patti Reising are joined by Bill Hing, professor of law and migration studies at the University of San Francisco and the author of "Humanizing Immigration."

With police moving in at Columbia, a violent clash at UCLA and simmering
tensions at Stanford. At UC Berkeley, the tent city on the steps and grass in front
of and around Sproul Hall continues to grow, with maybe 75 tents there now, but
that encampment remains surprisingly calm and peaceful, with little of the
tension we’ve seen elsewhere.

Those students are not blocking access to a Cal education, and the administration is taking a hands off approach for now, with no police presence at all.

To find out more about what’s going on there, I sat down at Sproul Plaza with Yazem Kashlan, a PhD student in developmental economics who is one of the leaders of the Cal encampment. He is of Syrian and Moroccan descent, born and raised in New Jersey.

UC Berkeley student's efforts to keep pro-Palestinian protests peaceful

There’s a new push to pass a statewide minimum wage of $20 dollars for all workers in California, including those behind bars.

The campaign comes just a month after California enacted a $20 dollar wage for workers at fast food restaurants.

The push for higher wages for fast food workers was seen as a milestone success, giving them something closer to a living wage, and now the people behind that would like to expand the $20 dollar an hour pay for workers in other sectors. There may be some unintended consequences of that higher wage though.
